CCS Group helps guard against virus attacks.
CD&P is latest company to sign up for
new email protection services
Hamilton, February 14, 2002 - CCS Group Ltd. is offering
Bermuda-based companies a new defense against email threats, and leading
international firms like Conyers Dill
& Pearman (CD&P) are taking advantage of the service. Called
Big Fish, the service was launched by CCS last month and also provides email
delivery back-up, protection against Denial of Service attacks and "mail
bombing", as well as comprehensive reporting tools. Last year,
virus attacks cost business approximately $13 billion, according to US research
firm Computer Economics. Fighting these viruses is a big problem for
organizations, and even the best internal systems can't protect against all
attacks. Unlike most virus protection services that reside on internal
networks, Big Fish provides a line of defense to automatically clean and filter
email through bandwidth, before it even reaches the company's servers. CCS
has been using the service to filter email internally for five months, and has
avoided problems with recent viruses such as the Goner virus, My Party and
Magistr.B. The service is easy, fast and unobtrusive.
More than 15 new virulent viruses and worms are launched every
day, said Robert Loxton, chief
executive officer of CCS Group. Big Fish is unlike any other service
available in Bermuda, and with the increasing challenges with these viruses and
worms affecting all types of businesses, we believe this will be a good solution
for many local companies.
With Big Fish, dual layer virus protection is
updated every 10 minutes, with an extra layer of protection to guard against
virus attacks as soon as the virus is identified, even before a solution is
available. The service requires no premise hardware or software, making
installation seamless. The suite of services available through Big Fish
includes: protection from Denial of Service and 'mail bomb' attacks; attachment
blocking and filtering; spam filtering; virus protection; store and forward;
outbound services; and unmatched reporting tools.
CD&P is using
the service for more than 400 employees worldwide. Like any serious
organisation, we are concerned about the security of our networks and want the
most effective defense against the many viruses out there today, said Ken
Siggins, manager, information technologies for CD&P. We are also a
target for a lot of spam email, which can clog up our mail servers and waste
employees time. The Big Fish solution that CCS is providing has
significantly decreased the amount of spam mail we receive, it gives a line of
defense before a virus gets anywhere near our systems, and provides back up in
case our email systems fail.
The service is available from CCS
for either a monthly flat rate or charged on bandwidth usage.
Comprehensive reporting on the service allows IT managers to monitor activity on
their networks and gain insight into the use or abuse of email.
Email
security is something that everyone needs today, and this is the easiest and
most effective line of defense for a company's email infrastructure, said
Loxton.
